Workshop #4: Running Audio

4. Running Audio 🎤 (Workshop: Feb 21)

WHY IS BAD AUDIO AN UNFORGIVABLE CURSE?

Often overlooked, sound is half the cinematic experience. 'Running Audio' is crucial for immersing the audience and making the world of your story feel real.

There is an adage in film: "Sound is half the picture." Audiences will forgive grainy footage, but bad audio breaks the immersion instantly. Capturing clean dialogue and crafting a layered soundscape grounds your story in reality and subconsciously guides the audience’s emotional response. If they can't hear it clearly, they can't feel it deeply.

  • "Audio 101" and learning the "Tools of the Trade" ensure you capture clean, high-quality dialogue and compelling sound effects. Poor audio immediately breaks the audience's suspension of disbelief, regardless of how beautiful the picture is.

  • Clear dialogue is the foundation of character interaction. However, non-dialogue elements like sound effects and music craft the narrative. The sudden absence of sound can heighten tension, a distant rumble of thunder can foreshadow conflict, and specific ambient sounds place the viewer directly within the story's location, deepening their connection to the events.

Join us for Workshop 4: Running Audio.

We’ll cover the tools of the trade, how to capture "sound in a bottle," and how to craft a sonic narrative.
